Raul Midon is an amazing versatile performer. Blind from birth, it is easy to compare him to a guitar playing Stevie Wonder. The comparison is not merely based on his lack of sight but on his ability to draw his audience in with his musical style. You stand mesmerize by his performance. His style of music is R&B/Jazz. He performs on stage accompanied only by his guitar and his voice. He uses his guitar not only for musical notes but also for percussion. He also has an amazing talent for using his lips as an additional instrument, kind of like a flute. If you have never heard him check out the video on this page. He is performing “State Of Mind.” Raul’s songs are thoughtful and full of positivity. His songs uplift the spirit. I was not able to see the entire concert, so I only have a few pictures and video of his performance. If you ever get the chance to experience Raul Midon in concert make sure you do. When you do, be prepared to be amazed.

You know a band has die hard fans when the fans stay for the performance during a torrential downpour. And, when I say torrential downpour I’m not using it as a metaphor, it was a freaking thunder storm out there! Yet, the Vampire Weekend fans stayed and partied in the rain. That’s true fan-dom!

From Wikipedia:
Vampire Weekend came to public attention via a variety of blogs, first Canadian Matt Yanchyshyn’s African and world music audioblog “Benn loxo du taccu”,[3] and then six months later on Stereogum.[4] The band is influenced by both African popular music and Western classical music. They describe their genre of music curiously as”Upper West Side Soweto”, performing such songs as “Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa”, which references Congolese soukous music.

The members of the band met while attending Columbia University; they then self-produced their first album after graduation while concurrently working full time jobs. Lead vocalist, Ezra Koenig, and drummer, Chris Tomson, first collaborated as members of the comedy-rap band “L’Homme Run”

Lead singer Ezra Koenig seemed very appreciative of the audience staying for the performance during the storm. He thanked us several times for staying. I’m glad I did.

Enjoy.
