People Spanish targeted Magazine’s annual Fiesta was a colorful extravaganza of Latin culture, Latinos, and marketing. The event takes place in Central Park’s Summerstage and is a day long affair with many activities for the whole family. I arrived as Hector Acosta “El Torito” was finishing his set. As the stage was being set up for the next act we were treated to a JCPenny fashion show. As you would expect, the models were attractive. When the male models came out the ladies went especially wild. The event is a combination of Live concerts and slick marketing. On locating in the Venue were companies like Verizon Wireless, Maybelline, and JCPenny. During the concert we were given sneak previews of the upcoming season of ABC Television’s “Ugly Betty”. The marketing angle is brilliant. The performing artists bring the crowds to the events. The marketers then have the ability to show off their products and services to the attendees in a way more personal than traditional marketing.
After the JCPenny show Fonseca and headliner Luis Fonsi came out and give incredible tight performances. Prior to seeing them at this concert I was not familiar with either artist. After hearing them both I can say I really like their music. I especially like Fonsi’s Por Una Mulher and Fonseca’s “Te Mando Flores”. The weather toyed with us by giving us a moderate drizzle occasionally, thankfully it never turned into heavy downpour. Definitely looking forward to next year’s Fiesta.
Enjoy,

No time to write review. Read about Kinky from Wikipedia. Enjoy the pictures:
Kinky is a five member band from Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico formed in 1998. It consists of members Gilberto Cerezo, Ulises Lozano, Carlos Chairez, Omar Góngora, and Cesar Pliego. The band’s music takes heavy influence from Latin music as well as rock, dance, and techno. They sing mostly in Spanish but some of their songs contain lyrics in English. They are signed with Sonic360 Records since the release for their first studio album.
Their first album, called Kinky, was released in early 2002 and was a success in Latin America, and had some success in the U.S. Their 2nd single, titled Más, is nowadays their most known single all around the world.

Today I saw another incredible Latin concert at Central Park SummerStage. I have to say that of all the concert venues I attend, SummerStage is my favorite. They have great performers and allow the audience to get close to the stage. The Spanish Harlem Orchestra is a 13 piece band that embraces the heart and soul of classic Salsa music. As a matter of fact they won the 2004 Grammy Award for Best Salsa/Merengue album for their “Across 110th Street“. Their new Album, “United We Swing” continues that tradition. As I mentioned the music is sweet classic Salsa in the tradition of the great Tito Puente. But, they even threw in a nice Latin Jazz piece that they like to play at Jazz Festivals. The three lead singers have fun belting out the tunes and dancing in unison. And, are enjoyable to watch. Check out the videos for a taste of great Salsa music from the Spanish Harlem Orchestra!Enjoy,

Salsa music pouring out of opened apartment windows on hot sticky summer days. This is one of the things that come to my mind when I think of summer in New York City. Tito Rojas made that memory come to life on Friday. He and his 18 person big band set Prospect Park ablaze with sweet hot salsa music. As you can tell from the pictures the venue was packed. Red white and blue Puerto Rican flags could be seen in the hands of people having fun. There were people dancing salsa to Tito’s infectious rhythms everywhere. Watch the video clips and Celebrate Brooklyn Tito Rojas style.Enjoy,

I first saw Ozomatli at Celebrate Brooklyn with my friends Rob and Laura. Laura is a huge Ozomatli fan and I came along to see what was up. I was blown away. Ozomatli is the bomb. So this year when I saw they were coming to Summerstage, you know I had to be there. The boys do not disappoint. They rocked the park with their unique style of Latin flavored, Reggae tinged, Hip-hop dance music. They even throw in some ‘Nawlins (That’s New Orleans) brass band music with “Magnolia Soul”. A song dedicated to the victims of Hurricane Katrina.
For anyone who has not seen Ozomatli perform these guys are versatile. They play what they like and they seem to really enjoy doing it.The performances are energetic, fun to watch and to participate in. They like to get close to or in the audience when they perform. M.C. Jabu Smith-Freeman jumped off the stage during the performance to shake hands with the crowd. Later in the show they invited a bunch of kids up on stage to join the band and play instruments along with the band. All in all one hell of a good time.Ozo is a band that believes in spreading positive vibes. They believe in a spirit of community and harmony among all people and this is seen in their musical styles. They promote unity and diversity by showing it on stage with the different types of music they embrace. I felt the energy while watching them perform. It was a very cool experience.
They end the show by climbing off stage with their instruments and walking through the crowd while chanting “Ozomatli ya se fue, ya se fue!” (Ozomatli is leaving). Then it turns into a Brazilian samba batucada party. Everyone gets involved as Ozomatli walks though the crowd and gives everyone front row access to this enjoyable ensemble that does not want to stop giving. Awesome!
Enjoy,
